Aim: This course covers the approach, process and tools of capital budgeting analysis. From the basic definitions of financial terminology to in-depth concepts, the course explains capital budgeting analysis in detail with examples and relevant illustrations. The following concepts that form the backbone of capital budgeting are studied in detail; net present value, internal rate of return, and payback period. Additionally, concepts such as project risk vs. uncertainty are also covered. Topics such as discount rates, tools to assess the worth of a project, post analysis, study of economics and international factors are discussed to develop a broader understanding of capital budgeting analysis. Finally, the course covers real-life case studies from international projects; – Gold mining. – Uranium mining. – Exploration for crude oil. – Oil field development. – Incremental value addition project: Revamp of existing crude oil refinery to increase transport fuels yields.
